Ephesians 6:15 – “and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]. [Isaiah 52:7]
This was one part of the armor of God that I didn’t fully get until just recently, the shoes of peace.
The Roman sandals, the part of the armor that we read about in Ephesians 6, had cleats on the bottom of them.
With these shoes on, the soldier could fight an enemy going uphill, and make up ground — extra traction for mountainous regions or uneven ground— as well as for combat application—‘stepping on the snakes,’ if you will.
The Bible calls them the shoes of peace.
Peace.
So that no matter how rugged the terrain may get, or how steep the mountain, or how scary the opposition may seem…
It’s all under our feet, because of the peace.
The peace of God says, “I’ll forever hold you steady.”
The peace of God says, “dig in, girl, and advance that mountain.”
The peace of God sends us out with the good news, to share even when we don’t think we can, or should, or know how.
The peace of God shouts louder than the uncertainty as we take our authority and “put things under our feet,” as we crush the snakes that try to deceive us that through the finished work of Christ it really wasn’t finished…
The peace stabilizes us as we make up ground, make up lost time, as we are accelerated to advance the kingdom…
Because we now know that Jesus did it — completely HE finished it— and we wage war on the kingdom of darkness not hoping to win… but knowing the battle is already won.
We wage war for those who don’t know yet. We advance into the kingdom of darkness and it’s territory for those Gods kids who can’t see yet.
We expose what’s slithering in the dark at their feet by turning on the Light of Truth- the real Gospel, here and now.
Suit up, church.
Thank you God, for the shoes of peace.
