Isaiah 40:11: ‘He will feed His flock like a sheperd: He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom and will gently lead those that have their young.’
In chapter 40 in Isaiah, we hear about the frailty of people in our natural state… how it is the power of God—the Word of God— that resides inside of us that actually stands forever.
This passage goes on and this part really stood out to me…
He will gently lead those that have their young.
Any mamas out there that have encountered Christ and feel the fire of God burning in your heart to proclaim and exclaim His goodness to the world but with the fruitfulness of family find it hard at the end of the day to find the minutes to pick the bible up?
Any mamas worry that you might be missing the move of God right now because you’re one eye on the kiddos during the teaching message?
Any mamas tempted to feel frustration because the littlest wants to stay in big church with you, and you want to feel dread as your arms are falling off because you’re going to praise the Lord with her in your arms, anyway?
Any mamas out there wonder if you missed the ministry boat because your quiver is so blessed by God, so full?
I silence all of those lies, in Jesus’ name… these kids ARE the move of God.
Embrace His Grace to you in this season.
And I’m not just talking about the Love side of Grace, I’m talking about the dig in and advance Grace. The power you have, from HIM to push through.
Raising our young is so important to God, ya’ll.
It’s the foundational parts of our call, the foundation of what God wants to show us and how He wants to grow us… and He gently leads us throughout it.
It’s hard to lead our young. It’s legit the hardest.
Do you know why it’s so tempting to just keep moving on and not do this work at home to disciple our family and children first, before we go out in ministry to others?
Because it’s where the most real version of us lives.
Home is where we walk around with no makeup, we are free and comfortable and in slippers and robes. It’s where the hidden treasures of our hearts are seen, observed, and taught.
Home is where we have the hardest conversations, where emotions get real and raw when life often deals you a hard hand for a minute.
It’s the most real place that we have, with the most real people you’ll get, in the most real reality you live.
It’s revealing to teach your daughter about gossip and what the bible says it does to others, and find yourself ‘gossiping’ to your spouse in front of her…
Its revealing to teach your son that he’s to worry about NO THING, but to take it all to Jesus’s feet and God will give him peace for that worry, yet he watches me get stressed, irritated and overwhelmed at an overfilled calendar and overcommitted time blocks that I set up.
What does my husband see in me? Does He see the Father? Does He feel the love and comfort from the Holy Spirit? Does how I act, my behavior, reflect that bible verse that comes out of my mouth on my facebook page, or on my blog site?
What about the children?
How are they learning to handle conflict by watching me behind the walls of home? How are they learning to handle their emotions? How are they learning from me to treat their brothers and sisters? Are their siblings getting better love from strangers than from each other at home?
When they read my blog one day, will they say, ‘who was this mama?’ or will they say, ‘yes, that really was her’….?
If you’re like me, it’s like yikes. Room for growth on ALL that…
Here’s the thing, though. Just like this verse tells us, the Holy Spirit gives us power. Power to do His will, by staying plugged into His power. Even to confront these deep, undesirable things in us, these day to day things that snare us… He is a POWERFUL GOD Who gently leads those that have their young.
He’s gently leading you, while you disciple them. He understands. He knows, and He’s not frustrated with your lack of ability to keep up like you think you should.
This powerful God is pleased with you nursing your young…
The same God that measured the waters in the hollow of His Hand;
The same God who marked off the heavens with a nine-inch span;
The same God who enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance;
The same God to who the nations are like a drop from a bucket and are counted as small dust on scales;
The same God who takes up the isles like a very little thing, is the same God who gently leads you and I who have our young.
(Isaiah 40:12-15)
There’s grace for you in this season, mama. Not only grace for the mess-ups, but there’s also grace for us to step-up… to the next level with God.
Go on up higher.
Step up and receive God’s power to transform our households and homes, to step up and confront some hard things that need God’s love, starting with your and my own heart.
Clean it up, clean it out with God’s Holy Spirit. Push through the fatigue, the frustration, and distractions.
You and me, mama, we are most importantly discipling tiny disciples, whether we know it or not. We are shooting arrows into the next generation that will pierce the ground… what will they contribute?
What will they know about God? What will they do in times of trial and turmoil? What will they remember from how they grew up? What times will they remember that they walked through, that you walked through, where God set us free and they saw the change? What will we want them to know as a new parent, as a young adult?
I’m here to prophesy right now, that us mamas are raising up a generation of fire-starters… our full quivers of Holy Spirit-filled flaming arrows will pierce the ground, spreading Holy Spirit wildfire in the next generation, in Jesus’ name.
So grow them, disciple them, teach them about the Lord, first.
He’s still gently leading you, and will always be.
