Purpose

What is purpose?

Ironically enough, I was watching a new animated movie with my family, and there was one line that popped out at me… “I found another purpose to wake me…”

According to the oxford dictionary, purpose is defined as “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.”

In this movie, this cat had gone to the pound because she committed a crime, and was wallowing in prison, feeling sorry for herself, feeling lost, forgotten about, hopeless, abandoned.

It was when she ‘thought’ up this new assignment for herself, that she self-determined her purpose, and her identity now being in this new, challenging, assignment in front of her.

It was almost prophetic in this moment, and I thought about it… and I could see how we, as believers in Jesus, those who seek God for next steps in life, could easily find purpose in our next assignment from Him.

I could also see our purpose being birthed in a business, a dream job, a childhood vision.

The thing that stood out to me though, is that all these things we do, they can all fade.

Expire.

People move on.

They no longer want to buy, they are onto the next thing the world brings.

Not all, but some.

So then what? Do we find ourselves like this cat in the pound? Not knowing who we are, or what we are here for?

Hopeless? No way to turn?

I’m reminded today that there’s one thing that we as believers in Jesus must hold fast to that will never expire, run out, or fade away.

A timeless truth that is for every man willing to acknowledge Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Our real, unchanging, never fading, undeniable purpose is found in Jesus Christ.

He died for you, sister.

He gave everything on the cross for you.

He wants you to find peace, perfect love… Jesus knows what it feels like to be separated from the Father because of sin… Jesus came from the Father as our Ultimate High Priest, who knows you and intercedes on your behalf, simply so you can experience, know and be loved by your Creator.

Your simple, not hard to figure out, peace that passes all understanding purpose forever is to know the Father, through the perfect sacrifice of the Savior of the World, Jesus Christ.

To love Him with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength, to love others just as He loves you, and that includes the absolute necessity of receiving, knowing, resting, growing, healing, being strengthened by and overcoming the hurt only by the Perfect Love of God.

“Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.””
