The ‘I Can’t’ Mentality

Uh hmm…

“Yes, Lord?”

“Don’t say that.”

“What?”

“That… you keep starting phrases off with ‘I just cannot…’”

“Okay… But it feels like I cannot.”

“Since when does your feeling rule higher than My Promise? Did I not call You to this?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Have I let you down yet?”

“No, sir.”

“I Am the Author and Finisher of your faith. I know the end from the beginning, and what I say never returns to Me without accomplishing that which I sent it to do.

You can, because Jesus did.

You will, because I said.

I didn’t set you up on an assignment to complete without every single tool you need within you. You asked Me for a word for this season, and I gave it to you. Remember?”

“Yes, Lord.”

“No more ‘I can’t.’ Just do it.”

AMEN.

This is how God talks to me sometimes. Direct. And I absolutely love, love it.

This ‘I can’t’ mentality was something that the Lord was checking me on, literally every single time I said it.

I’d open my mouth and I’d literally feel that little guard there that I pray to keep watch so often, jab me with his spear…

This mentality is detrimental. It’s a death promise. A defeated confession, a mentality that needs to be uprooted and rebuilt in Him.

Now, because His correction was so frequent, I stop the ‘I cannot’ thought from even reaching my lips.

Now I can whisper, “I can. I can do this thing that God told me to do, through CHRIST who gives me strength. I follow He makes. He guides, and I just do it.”

If God has given you a word, an instruction, a dream, a vision, a heart desire for something, this verse is for you, too… Just Go Do It.

“Set a guard, O Lord, before my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.”

“This commandment that I’m commanding you today isn’t too much for you, it’s not out of your reach. It’s not on a high mountain—you don’t have to get mountaineers to climb the peak and bring it down to your level and explain it before you can live it. And it’s not across the ocean—you don’t have to send sailors out to get it, bring it back, and then explain it before you can live it. No. The word is right here and now—as near as the tongue in your mouth, as near as the heart in your chest. Just do it!”
