9-“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; [a]neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate [by perversion], nor [b]those who participate in homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers [whose words are used as weapons to abuse, insult, humiliate, intimidate, or slander], nor swindlers will inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you [before you believed]. But you were washed [by the atoning sacrifice of Christ], you were sanctified [set apart for God, and made holy], you were justified [declared free of guilt] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God [the source of the believer’s new life and changed behavior].”- 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
All of us, at some point or another, have fallen into one of these categories of sin.
None of them are any worse than others in the eyes of Him.
Some of us have idolized people, committed adultery in our hearts, we’ve stolen accidentally or maybe even on purpose…
We’ve been guilty of being greedy, wanting to keep all for me and mine only…we been known for having too much wine, or we’ve used our words as weapons of death not only to abuse but to intimidate or humiliate someone instead allowing them to be an encouraging, healing balm that brings life.
We have all sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God.
But here comes the good part…Verse 11, brings powerful and beautiful truth. Verse 11 changes everything…
You’ve been washed.
Jesus, friend of sinners, became sin for you, so that in the eyes of God, you’d be made right.
He became all of these things, these sins, the scripture lists for you.
Jesus went to the cross and endured the physical pain for our bodies, despised the shame for us by humiliation, and mental torment He endured beyond measure all so that we could be washed. (Isaiah 53)
The sins of our past, present and future are all cast into the sea of forgetfulness, by God’s choice.
Get quiet with Him, tell Him what’s happened, and you want to be more like Christ, and don’t be scared to be wrong.
It’s good to be wrong. We can’t always be right.
It’s all of us.
Don’t let the culture we live in make you believe that you could never be, feel, talk, see, or do wrong by following your “human nature”.
Let’s call human nature what the Bible calls it- it’s our sin nature. It’s the sin nature that’s been washed away, according to the scriptures, so why do we toil with things that have been washed away already?
It’s a simple lie from Satan.
By telling God you’ve blown it, you’ve messed up, well that’s the first step to surrender.
You surrender your way, for His.
You labor to enter into His rest.
Jesus declared you ‘free of guilt,’ the amplified says.
He set you apart, made you holy, and equipped you to walk out your new nature.
He’s sent you the Holy Spirit as Helper and Comforter, to guide you into all truth… to teach you the true you.
All you have to do is ask.
Ask who the Bible says you are.
You’ll find righteous and holy, justified and redeemed, by the blood of Jesus.
Now go and live clean.
