Adoption

I was privileged to begin to walk alongside friends who were called to an adoption journey, and it has finally come to a close, their baby is now theirs.

It got me thinking about adoption.

This couple said yes to God, and in obedience walked a long road, with a lot of roadblocks, wrong turns, one-step-forward-two-steps-back, for a baby they didn’t yet know.

A promise that they didn’t yet see.

Too many almosts, that never happened.

Tears, questions, temptation to wonder, “Did God really say?”

Things I’m sure I never even knew about.

Years in length.

They came to the end of the road so many times, so many Red Sea moments, and God showed up every single time.

As always, the Keeper of Promises.

And as I look at their now perfectly complete family, I see God.

I see God in this mama, holding this preciously pure baby in pearls and lace.

I see God in the daddy, carrying her so tenderly, so proud he could bust.

I see God in the indescribable joy that overtakes their faces as they cradle their promised baby, pass her around for loves, I see a true gift from God, His reward to them.

I see God in their plans, and celebrations and family memories to come.

I see God in their extended family, so intimate and caring for one another, selflessly available, never missing a thing, walking along side the mama and daddy, just like the Family of God.

I see God in them being complete, having their personalized more than you could ask, think or imagine, provided.

I see God not only in their story, but in mine and yours.

You see, we were adopted like this.

Adopted into His family.

I see God cradling the new believer. Joy abounding on His face as He holds the gaze of the newborn…

“What great plans I have for you…” He says to him.

He never takes His eyes off…

I see the Family of God, coming around the new believer, the baby, and taking care of her, comforting, showering her with gifts, feeding her, nurturing her to grow.

I witnessed God do a miracle, I witnessed a powerful story of love.

Such a beautiful image of God and His love made manifest, because a mama and a daddy simply chose to say ‘yes.’
