Stewardship and The Spirit

I am not a preacher y’all… I am not even an official teacher by trade, just a full time working wife and mom to three who got lit ablaze by the fire of Jesus and I don’t want to turn back.

I find this balance to be difficult in this season…

The balance of walking in The Spirit, and being a steward, doing well what God has already given you, and also what He has told you to do.

The balance of walking in The Spirit and capturing all of the details of God’s words to me, and stewarding simultaneously.

Stewarding the family… Clint, Rosie, Tate and Charlotte. Cleaning the house and taking care of the cat and the hamster and the emotional Great Dane.

Washing, drying, folding clothes. Helping Clint cook and plan foods.

It is no easy task hearing God’s voice when Charlotte’s near cussing at me for an ice cream sandwich.

Hearing God’s voice when the dog tracks in mud or the litter box needed to be cleaned like yesterday.

When things get so crazy complicated and busy, it’s tempting to set aside seeking first the kingdom.

It really is.

But I can no longer use it as an excuse. Hard or not, we are built to withstand.

God’s called us mamas, and we have a responsibility to get ourselves together real quick into the secret place and stay while we raise our arrows.

No reason why we should leave His refuge at all anyway—we should dwell there and absorb all of the nutrients of His presence that we can soak in, as much as possible.

If God has called you to be a mama—and He has if you are one— you can do both.

You can walk in the Spirit, and you can steward your family, and all that goes along with it.

You may need to declutter, simplify and repair a few things for best functioning, but God has graced you to do it.

You can love them, care for them, clean up after them, teach them how to be humans all while teaching them about Him.

You were made for this.

Our pastor at Free Chapel, Jentezen Franklin, told this story on a podcast once about being a full time pastor, but I found it applicable to my story too, and I’ll never forget it. I’ll summarize it… “it’s like the stick of Moses. We get thrown down onto the ground to miraculously turn into a snake as a sign and wonder from God to those around us, then just like that, we get picked back up and are an ordinary stick again.”

It’s not turning God’s Spirit off and on, it’s more like it’s always on, and some situations warrant turning it up a little hotter.

So stay full of Him, mama.

Sometimes things are settled, and somethings your family will need the blowtorch of His Spirit for their day, their heart, their situation.

You can both steward and walk in the Spirit at the same time. He’s equipping you, just receive it.

He’s never failed at it yet.
