I have this treasure of prayers that I pray over my children, some that I got from a wonderful person who penned them, pure scriptural prayer and promises… they are amazing, and powerful declarations.
I had them ready to go during my prayer walk one day, and at the beginning of the prayers, she was sure to emphasize this, and it shouted so loudly at my spirit…
“There are many things we could do to ensure that our vision is passed onto our children. However, if our efforts are simply that which we have been told by others to do, and they have not been born out of prayer, the result will only be shallow and fleeting.”
Whoa.
It got me to thinking…
What is in our life, in our children’s lives, in our decisions and choices to raise our family up the way we do? Why did we decide to do what we decided to do? Each day? Each choice? From foods we feed them to eat to extracurriculars they participate in, to circles they are apart of, to the type of schooling they need?
Where did that come from? Why did we choose that way?
Was it birthed in prayer?
As the Lord began to talk to me and show me some things, I wondered if this would spark a flame in your home, too.
What does ‘birthed in prayer’ actually mean?
Well, it is the dreams and desires and the knowings that come to you in your spirit during , or often as a byproduct later of your prayer time spent with God.
Your prayer time praising Him, your prayer time reading the Bible, your prayer time just talking through the day or the interpersonal thing at work or in the community that you don’t quite know how to handle…Your prayer time asking Him for your needs, your time spent praying in your heavenly language.
Talking to Jesus.
What is birthed there when you pray for your toddler? What comes to your heart for him?
What desires grow for her the more and more you pray? What do you see, or imagine of her?
As you delight yourself in the Lord, these are the things the Holy Spirit is birthing in you for them… those are those things specifically for them.
He’s teaching you, mama, to train them up in the way they should go, the way that was designed by Him for His purpose since before the foundation of the world as you parent open handed with Him as lead.
This was new to me until a few months ago…
Of all the parenting books we could read you don’t hear much about this, but man the simplicity and freedom in letting God guide.
All the pressures that we take on and feel and try to do and get right… how all that turns to dust at the foot of the cross.
And then there’s you and me…
What about that? I mean, if I’m being honest, what do I do and allow in my life that was birthed in prayer over myself?
What desires of my heart have come from God, and what has come from other sources, like keeping up with the latest, like fear of this or worry about the possibility of that… how are we making decisions?
It takes time to sort through and I’ll tell you because I’m doing it now, it’s a little uncomfortable.
Sometimes there’s an undoing to be done.
Turning, shifting, restructuring, refocusing.
Why don’t you go with me?
Let’s get back to what was birthed in prayer…

Ask God for direction for you, for your babies, for your husbands, for your communities and your state, for your country and the world… for the Kingdom of Heaven.
It’s never too late.
