Jesus’s Mama

And how about the job of raising God’s son?

Mamas? Anyone think they could take that on? What a responsibility.

Do you think Mary tried to get Him in with the right teachers, the right friend circles, the right school?

Feed Him organic?

Did she make Him try sports?

An instrument?

Did she doubt her ability to mother the Savior of the whole world?

The Bible doesn’t tell us any of this.

Luke does however tell us how Jesus grows up, and how Mary and Joseph take Him for purification; they take Him to the temple, He goes through all the same rituals that the other Jewish boys did…

She knew Jesus was God’s son. Joseph knew, too.

They weren’t standing along side the soccer field talking about it to everyone…gloating, boasting, bragging.

Mary did what she knew to do to raise her boy for God the way she knew how, in the “for such a time as this” that Jesus was sent.

That’s all God needed, was her yes.

She let’s God do His thing, His way, with His Son.

She fully trusted God with her call to mother Jesus.

Think about the visiting angels, the shepherds, all the miraculous things she was told about her baby.

She knew what she had seen, what she had heard.

She knew she was clean, untouched, yet with child.

She knew what people were saying… she imagined what they thought, I’m sure.

I bet she replayed what the angels and shepherds said over and over in her mind…

‘you have found favor in the eyes of God…’

‘The Holy Spirit shall come upon you…’

‘He will be great and eminent and will be called the Son of the Most High…’

‘of His kingdom there shall be no end…’

The story of the multitude of hosts, witnessed by the shepherds…

Could you imagine?

But the Bible says ‘Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them, and pondering them in her heart.’ -Luke 2:19

She doesn’t go up to everyone she knew and tell them everything the angels told her. She let God do His thing.

She didn’t try to explain everything to Joseph about what the angels revealed to her… she let God do His thing.

She let God do it His way.

He announced, He guided, He oversaw.

No self-promoting, no attempt to take it into her own hands.

She just ponders, and she lets God do His thing, in His perfect way.

I could learn a lot from Mary.

I believe I can trust Him just as much with my children, too.

“But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.”
