Gardening

I am not actually a gardener, believe it or not, even though I write about it often.
My parents and grandparents were, and I grew up helping, to say the least.
Weeding and planting and picking green beans; rows and rows and rows of green beans…
I remember as soon as the birds started to sing in spring and the ground thawed out, my parents would spend Saturdays preparing the garden spot and laying out the vegetable garden they wanted to plant.
It was a big part of what we did when we were kids at our house.
The Plats of Grass

I don’t know if you notice things like this or not, or if this was just us in our yard, but in the spring when the grass was bright green, it looked so pretty.
It looked groomed and cared for, immaculate.
We kept it mowed, we did the edging and it was like a pretty smooth and soft green blanket.
But, if you get really close to the grass to examine the source of the green, there was very little actual grass.
It looks like grass. It’s green. It grows about the same pace to the same height and it mostly feels the same under your bare feet…
But there are clover looking pieces, dandelions, and those bushy green sprigs that sprout a cute little purple flower on the top.
Where did all that come from?
Did we sow weeds, for heavens sake!?
Did we ever plant grass seed?
Where are the actual blades of grass?
The Tiller

The time would come for us to start working the ground, so my dad would roll it out of the carport… yank the cord, pour the gas, give it a kick or two and it would eventually crawl down the front yard with him guiding the thing.
My dad would take this tiller out and start breaking up the ground… the grass, the hard spots of dirt, the clay… I would watch the wheels dig into them, uproot the grass patches, tearing apart the smooth green covering.
The dirt would be scooped out like giant ice cream shovels, disrupting the earth, disheveling the flat.
He would go back and forth, row by row, until he had the size he wanted to plant and hold the vegetable plants, the ones that would bear actual fruit for us to eat through the summer and winter months.
The tiller uprooted the grass, cultivated the dirt, stirred things up… because all of it had to come up.
The Ugly
Then, after daddy got done doing the tilling, it looked a mess.
Like, real ugly.
Instead of that pretty green feild there is this huge flat spot with these big clumps of grass, weeds, rocks, broken roots, hard red clay, old glass bottles and aluminum cans…
And now the fun part… we get to clean it out.
We use a rake, a hoe, a shovel or our hands, and we get the junk out.
All of it had to come up. Even the good grassy parts. All of it had to be examined. Every root, every blade, inspected and tossed out… only the vegetables were wanted.
We had to preserve the nutrients of the ground for the most important plants.
Mostly manually.
We have to eliminate the weeds, the grass, and anything that would prevent the growth of our new seeds from being abundantly fruitful to produce…the corn, the broccoli, and yes, even the green beans.

My dearest daughter, My dearest son,
I know you feel your heart of stone.
I know it feels heavy to carry, confusing to understand, slowing and stopping when you try.
I know you’ve always wanted more of Me.
I know you always longed for Me and My Presence.
I know you never said at any point that you didn’t want to know more…
I know you, and a whole slew of others long for the depths of My truths…
I know you long for My words to change you, to heal you, to renew you.
I know you long for manifested signs, wonders and miracles to touch your life, the lives of your people, your crew, your family.
I know you dream about what it would be like to actually see the things take place in 2026 like they did in Acts.
I know you believe in Me.
I see you sitting on the pew every Sunday, showing up, wanting so badly in your heart to know Me more, but not knowing how.
I know you love Me.
I know you know that you need Me.
I know it’s not that you don’t want to know, or aren’t willing to part with whatever seems to stand between us…
But this here is the starting point.
In order for you to know Me, you’ve got to let me know you, in all the corners of your soul.
You cannot know the realest love for Me until you allow Me to show you what real love actually is.
Open your heart to Me.
Your realest you.
Letting Me cultivate your hearts ground is the first step to stepping through the smokescreen.
There’s nothing true, real or actual that acts as that smokescreen, that metaphorical veil between us, thanks to Jesus.
I tore the veil to get to you.
Nothing really stands in the way… you just don’t know it yet.
You just think you know certain things that have been false.
Big misunderstandings turned to bondage. Things that have purposed to keep you caged.
You didn’t go out and plant the lies on purpose… you didn’t know what you didn’t know.
The world, the culture, the things and people that surround you have a way of planting weeds in your heart, weeds not from Me.
They just by nature creep in; they come in and take root when you don’t have an established garden from Me yet— it’s the natural law of the seed, time and harvest.
Be sure, son, to call weeds what they are. This is SO important. Junk is junk. Purposeless is without purpose, ugly is ugly… stop trying to make rotten things attractive and tolerate them… anything not of Me has no place in you or for you, its gotta go.
Invite Me to search you.
Invite Me to know you, invite Me to search your mind.
Invite Me to transform your will.
It may look ugly at first.
The amount of things you’ll discover that were never from Me may make you cry, probably.
Your life likely may look for a time disheveled and torn apart. Things will seem uprooted, exposed, messy and really ugly, but things are never as they seem when you look with your eyes… look at things with Mine.
Will you read the Bible, with Me?
Can I show you where what you thought it said actually said something else?
Can I finally show you real, genuine Truth?
With your permission, in My perfect love and timing, I will reveal to you the clumps of grass, weeds, rocks, broken roots, hard red clay, old glass bottles and aluminum cans that were hidden in your heart…
But only so that you and I together can rake them out, making room for the new.
Only so that you and I can layout the new garden, plan the plants that need to grow, so that you can bear fruit and be healthy and have fullness of joy, and for my other children to taste and see, too…
Don’t be afraid to be ugly in front of Me.
I already know what is there, and our time together working to clean things out, will only build and grow our relationship, our bond.
You’ll really get to know Me, here, in the garden.
Nothing exposed in My Light can ever lessen, slow down, stop, or influence My love for you because nothing is hidden from Me.
And you’ll find how I have this way of healing things so perfectly, removing things so efficiently, restoring the years that were stolen and eaten by the locusts and the canker worm better than you’d know to ask Me for or even imagine.
Will you come and see?
Will you invite Me in?
The choice is yours, as always. But I’ll never, never ever stop asking.
Love,
Your Heavenly Daddy
It is shocking to realize that three fourths of the seeds did not bear fruit, Jesus did not describe an age of great harvest, but one in which the Word would be rejected. He was not impressed with the ‘great multitudes,’ that followed Him, for He knew that most of the people would not receive His Word within and bear fruit. [Wiersbe 37].’
