After Jesus rose from the dead, He made these appearances to individuals, at certain times and certain places.
But I could imagine that in being a disciple of Christ, even though they knew He was alive, the fact that He was not any longer just a few steps away to inquire of anything they wanted in that moment may have felt overwhelming to them.
I wonder if they wondered things like, “what now?”
I wonder if they walked around, wondering if it was all a dream.
Even Peter went back fishing.
Being in the presence of God is such a powerful and overcoming thing when you believe and are being discipled and when He is gone—in this case out of their physical presence—I’m sure they were desperately clinging to the words He spoke.
Jesus told them about The Comforter, who could everywhere at the same time all the time for everyone was coming, but He had not been poured out yet, and they must wait for Him.
So they gather and they wait, they continue to meet up, knowing that what Jesus said about this must also come to pass.
This reminds me of a part of my testimony in a way… I got saved when I was 13 years old, the Holy Spirit drew me as a New Testament believer, to salvation, and I knew I was going to heaven, but I was doing a lot waiting.
Waiting for heaven, not knowing about the fullness of the Holy Spirit to equip and empower me.
Working on my own without His guidance or help— producing vain efforts and nothingness.
Just like the disciples, knowing I knew Him, knowing I encountered Him and He saved me, just not sure what to do with it, just waiting around.
But like Jesus said, Acts 2 was coming, and it came.
The Holy Spirit fell on the disciples, and equipped them for their individual work, because they were waiting for Him.
They knew they could do nothing for Him without Him.
This is the same for us.
We can live our “believer lives” waiting until heaven, and we will get there.
Or we can let the Holy Spirit empower us to get to work.
God’s taught you so much.
He saved your life from sin for a reason.
He revealed truths, He told you answers.
He showed you what was hidden in the darkness.
He graced you to learn and have the eyes to see and the ears to hear what His word has said to you, personally.
He saved you.
He is with you.
He is IN you.
He made you for this time, this place, this thing.
Now it’s time to get to work.
By Application.
…Putting to practice what you’ve been told.
Leaving a legacy that will outlive your time, something that will offend enemy lines, something that will advance God’s kingdom…
Speaking out the promises God has highlighted from His word to your heart.
It’s time to believe what God says about you and leave the rest at the door.
Time to be a doer of the word, not a hearer only. Do what you hear taught. Do what your journals have begun to repeat to you over and over these past years.
Faith without works, is dead.
I’m not talking about religious doing and earning— I’m talking about Resurrection Grace, your responsibility to step up and into the current.
Up from a place of obedience, from a place of deep love and want to…
Step into the character growth God wants you to enjoy.
Share your story with your kids.
Write the things of God on the walls of your home.
God gives you the desires of your heart, because you’ve been delighting in Him.
Go after it.
No longer look behind, but look up, look forward into the Spirit of God, who knows the real you.
The real you is love and joy and patient and self controlled.
You’re not your old man. You’re not the flesh. You’re a new creature now.
Step in.
It’s time to put on Christ.

“For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness. For by You I can run through a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.”
