Shamed.

Embarrassed.

Fully exposed.

In a song by Servant Zero, he makes one statement that exploded in my heart… he was singing of how He ignored God’s pull… “while I worshipped embarrassment.”

I ponder this, and can totally relate.

I’ve worshipped embarrassment.

I would use it as an excuse to not go forward like God told me to.

I would try to hide from the Lord what He already knew in fullness within my heart, pretty and ugly.

How do you overcome this idolization of embarrassment, the magnifying of the self?

How do we overcome the idea that my being embarrassed is a larger truth that what God said I am?

I think about Adam and Eve in the garden and how after Eve ate the fruit, that revealed her nakedness…

Prior to the eating of the fruit, the Bible says they were naked but not ashamed…

“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”

They simply found themselves believing something more than what God said, which resulted in full exposure.

All bearing.

Shameful and embarrassing.

The devil loves to make you look shameful, loving to watch embarrassment.

These two things are stifling, and can stop someone dead in their tracks.

God asked them, “who told you that you were naked?”

I believe before God cursed the serpent, and explained the effects of their choices to Eve and then Adam, He was grieved to find them so far away…

Grieved at this shame in His two children He has wonderfully created.

They tried to cover with fig leaves, but God came and made them coverings of skin; for now anyways…

“Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.”

God had a much better plan than coverings of skin for Adam and Eve that He had already set in motion.

And He has the same perfect solution for our problems of shame and embarrassment, too…

Jesus Christ.

Jesus despised the shame on Calvary.

He died in the most humiliating way possible; degrading, dehumanizing, and shamefully.

Only so you could be forever freed free from sin’s hold of humiliation.

Jesus knows what a hold shame can have, and He took care of it for you.

Jesus Christ gives us a robe of righteousness to replace our nakedness. It doesn’t cover it— the robe of righteousness replaces shame completely.

Can you know it?
